Incentive Programs for Solar Power

Net Metering
Net metering allows you to send electricity you generate with solar power to the electrical grid for credit toward your energy costs. Your utility company will subtract the value of electricity you supply to the grid from the value of what you take from the grid. What you’ll see on your bill is the “net” difference between those two amounts. There are costs involved in converting to a net metering system. Net metering is not yet available to Hydro Ottawa customers. Net metering is available to Hydro One and Hydro Québec customers. For more information contact your local utility company.

Rebate for Solar Hot Water
The provincial government of Ontario is offering a $500 rebate for solar domestic water heating systems.

Ontario's Standard Offer Program for Solar PV Energy
If you generate more electricity from solar electricity than you need you can sell the surplus to Ontario's electrical grid at 42 cents/kwh (approximately 7 times the current cost of buying electricity from the grid). For more information visit the website at: www.powerauthority.on.ca

Ontario's Northern Energy Program
Supporting Energy Conservation and Generation Initiatives for Northern Ontario. For more information visit website at: www.mndm.gov.on.ca

Ontario's PST Rebate
There is a Provincial Sales Tax Rebate on all residential solar equipment sold in Ontario. This program is set to expire July, 2008.
